How to get there and what to do in Zacatlán de las Manzanas, Puebla

Zacatlán de las Manzanas is one of the Magical Towns of Puebla, famous for its floral clock, its murals, landscapes and, of course, for the production of apples. This beautiful destination offers a wide variety of tourist, historical and cultural activities that are worth visiting. Discover the attractions of Zacatlan de las Manzanas and prepare your next trip to this magical town with Hertz Mexico.

How to get to Zacatlán de las Manzanas and when to get there

To get there, you can rent a car in CDMX and take the Mexico-Pachuca highway (MEX-132), continue on the Mexico-Tuxpan highway (MEX-132D) and take the exit towards Tulancingo. Then follow the highway to Zacatlán de las Manzanas. This trip will take you about 3 hours. If you are in Puebla you can also rent a car and get there in about 2.5 hours. To do so, take the Puebla-Teziutlán highway (MEX-140) and continue to Zacatlán de las Manzanas. This is a destination you can visit all year round, as it has a very pleasant mountain climate. However, if you prefer to avoid rain, you can consider visiting during the dry season, which is usually from November to April. Also, for lodging you can find a great offer of cabins in Zacatlan de las Manzanas with wonderful views, including the famous tree house. On the other hand, we recommend you to take into account the special events, fairs or festivals that are organized in the town. For example, El Festival de la Manzana is usually held in August and offers a variety of activities such as concerts, exhibitions and gastronomic samples, where you can experience the local culture and the celebration of one of the most important products of the region.

Tour the city

The tour of Zacatlan begins in the main square where the famous floral clock is located. This is decorated entirely with natural flowers. It is an emblematic place of the city and an obligatory stop for visitors. A short distance away are two important religious buildings, the parish of San Pedro and the Ex-Franciscan Convent. This neoclassical parish is one of the main attractions of Zacatlan. You can admire its impressive architecture and visit its interior to appreciate the works of sacred art. Another activity you should do is to stroll through the picturesque streets of the historic center, where you will find colonial architecture, craft stores, restaurants and cafes. Take the opportunity to visit the Gastronomic Market, taste typical local dishes and enjoy apples and products derived from this fruit, such as cider and sweets. Zacatlán de las Manzanas is known for its cider production. You can take a tour of one of the cider factories to learn about the production process and its history.

Discover the Mirador de Cristal and the Vitro Murals

Enjoy a breathtaking view of the mountains of Puebla that will make you feel like you are among the clouds. The Mirador de Cristal is located in the Barranca de los Jilgueros, a suspended glass platform that allows visitors to appreciate the natural landscape below them. The viewpoint offers a unique and exciting experience, since when walking on the glass platform, visitors have the sensation of floating over the landscape. In addition, the lookout has open-air observation areas from where panoramic views of the mountains, the Cola de Caballo waterfall and other smaller waterfalls can be admired. Just in front of the lookout is the city's Pantheon, whose exterior is adorned with murals made of thousands of small fragments of colored glass, mosaic, tiles and talavera. These are strategically positioned creating a great work of art. These murals were made in commemoration of the 300th anniversary of Zacatlán de las Manzanas and usually depict scenes of daily life, natural landscapes, cultural traditions or historical themes relevant to the area. But the Pantheon is not the only place with murals, as they adorn various public spaces, such as plazas, parks, government buildings and community centers. The vitro murals are an integral part of Zacatlan's cultural heritage and contribute to the town's unique and colorful identity.

Visit the Tulimán Waterfalls and the Valley of the Encrusted Stones

The Tulimán Waterfalls complex is located about 10 km from the city and can be easily reached in your rental car. This place is divided into three zones with different attractions each. The Tuliman Waterfall is located in zone one and to reach it you have to walk a few minutes along a path that opens up through the vegetation. The waterfall is composed of three staggered waterfalls, which together total more than 300 meters high, being the highest in Puebla and the second highest in all of Mexico. In zone two you will find fun attractions such as the zip line, hanging bridges and the hollow tree, while in zone three you can see the union of the two rivers and the Cajón waterfall. Don't forget to wear comfortable shoes to be able to tour this ecopark. On the other hand, about 30 minutes by car from Zacatlán de las Manzanas is the Valle de las Piedras Encimadas. You can tour this place on horseback, by wagon or on foot. The place has more than 300 hectares, where the dense fog, the beautiful trees and more than 50 overlapping rocks make up the incredible landscapes of the place. The most emblematic rock is approximately 30 meters high and, although it looks like several rocks on top of each other, it is only one. As you saw, Zacatlan de las Manzanas offers several incredible attractions. Therefore, choose car rental and stay in one of the beautiful cabins of the place to get to know all its cultural, natural and artistic beauties. Go ahead and enjoy with Hertz Mexico a weekend in this wonderful destination.
