World Cup 2026: How to move between Mexico's venues

The most important soccer event is getting closer and Mexico, along with the United States and Canada, is preparing to host this spectacular tournament. This 2026 edition promises to be historic, with a new format where more teams will participate and it will be played in three different countries.

If you plan to be part of this sporting event, in this article from Hertz Mexico we share with you everything you need to know to enjoy it to the fullest and move around the country's venues efficiently.

When will it be held?

The tournament will be held from June 11 to July 19, 2026, a period of just over a month in which fans will experience the excitement of soccer at an unprecedented level. This tournament marks a milestone in the history of soccer, as it will be the first edition with the participation of 48 national teams, a significant increase over the 32 teams of previous editions. The teams will compete in more than 80 matches, spread across three host countries. This not only expands the global reach of the event, but also fosters cooperation between nations.

In addition to the sporting matches, the host cities will offer a wide variety of cultural activities, festivals and side events to enrich the experience.

Venues

The venues for the tournament will be distributed among 16 cities in North America: 11 in the United States, 3 in Mexico and 2 in Canada. In Mexico, in addition to hosting the opening match, group stage and knockout matches will be played through to the round of 16, depending on the progress of the tournament and the location of the qualified teams. These venues have been selected to offer world-class stadiums and an unforgettable experience for fans, ensuring that each stage of the event will be special.

Venues in Mexico

In Mexico, matches will take place in three iconic cities, each with unique stadiums and features.

Mexico City - Azteca Stadium

The Estadio Azteca, with a capacity of more than 87,000, is a historic venue that has hosted finals of previous tournaments, including the 1970 and 1986 World Cups. Guadalajara - Akron Stadium

This modern stadium, with a capacity for 46,000 people, is located in Zapopan, part of the Guadalajara metropolitan area. It is known for its avant-garde design and comfortable facilities and will be one of the key venues for the group stage matches of the 2026 tournament, standing out for its efficiency and state-of-the-art technology.

Monterrey - BBVA Stadium

Located in Guadalupe, Monterrey, this 53,500-seat stadium is considered one of the most modern in Latin America. Its impressive architecture and mountain views make it a unique venue for matches.

Access to intermediate destinations: The routes between Mexico's venues offer unique landscapes and points of interest. For example: Between Mexico City and Guadalajara, you can visit Querétaro, famous for its historic center and vineyards. From Monterrey to Guadalajara, you can stop in San Luis Potosi to explore its natural wonders such as the Huasteca Potosina.

Flexibility in schedules: With a car, you're not tied to strict itineraries. If a game runs long or you want to enjoy the city's nightlife, you won't have to worry about missing a scheduled shuttle.

Cost-sharing: If you're traveling in a group, renting a car can be an economical option by splitting the costs of rental, gas and toll booths among passengers.

Comfort and space: Traveling by car offers greater comfort, especially if you are carrying suitcases, souvenirs or sports equipment. In addition, you will be able to customize the weather and stops according to your needs.
